One way this speech is truly effective is through repetition. Dr. King uses repetition throughout his entire speach to get his point across to all listeners. An example of this is when he quotes "100 hundred years later, the Negro is still not free! One hundred years later, the life of a Negro is still sadly crippled by..."
He does this in order to draw the listener in and to see his point of view.
Another way this speech is effective is through his dialogue. This is effective because Martin Luther King Jr. was a brilliant man and had an extensive vocabulary. This was not common for most african american men back then. He used his knowledge to his advantage when preparing this speech. He used quotes from the bible, and he also used quotes from the Constitution. An example of his references is "When the architects of our Republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. The note was a promise that all men, yes black men as well"
These are just 2 of many ways Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr made his speech so successful and one of the most recognizable speeches to this day
